The Gérald Genta Archive

The Brief

Visionary watchmaker and designer, Gérald Genta left a legacy of iconic designs. Not only did he pioneer genre-defining models and timepieces, but he also introduced new ways to read time with his retrograde and bi-retrograde movements. For a major retrospective of the 20th century’s pre-eminent luxury watch designer’s art, the Swiss Fondation de la Haute Horlogerie in Geneva, commissioned Facsimile Editions to make facsimile replicas of the designer’s original artwork.

The Project

As the delicate and precious originals could not be moved from their archive, Facsimile Editions scanned the originals in situ. Proofs were made and checked against the originals, again in situ.

Paper was selected to exactly simulate the surface texture of the paper used by Gérald Genta to create his originals. Final proofs were presented to H.E. Mrs Evelyne Genta and representatives of the Fondation de la Haute Horlogerie for their approval.
